ST. PAUL, Minn., (July 17, 2009) - Dorothy Bridges of Minneapolis, Minn., is the new chair of the Northwest Area Foundation board of directors, and the Rev. Kevin McDonough of St. Paul, Minn., is the vice chair. Bridges succeeds former Board Chair Daniel Kemmis of Missoula, Mont., who completed his term and will now serve as chair emeritus. Bridges and McDonough assumed their leadership roles at the regularly scheduled board of directors meeting in July.

Dorothy Bridges is president and chief executive officer of City First Bank of DC in Washington, DC. She joined the bank after nine years as president and chief executive officer of Franklin National Bank, a community bank in Minneapolis that focuses on serving the financial needs of small businesses, nonprofit entities and socially conscious individuals. She has more than 28 years of banking and has served on many banking, civic and foundation committees, including her role as a trustee and investment committee member of the Minneapolis Foundation.

The Reverend Kevin McDonough is pastor at the Church of St. Peter Claver in St. Paul, Minnesota and Sagrado Corazón, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Previously, he served as vicar general and moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. He represented the archbishop in various capacities and served as the chief operating officer for the archdiocese. He also served as chancellor and Episcopal vicar for the archdiocese in several capacities relating to canon law and was secretary of the board of the directors of the archdiocese. Father McDonough sits on several boards of Catholic organizations.

“Dorothy Bridges and Father Kevin McDonough have distinguished themselves as community leaders with vision, integrity and passion for our efforts to reduce poverty,” said Kevin F. Walker, president and CEO of Northwest Area Foundation. “Their unique skills will help guide the Foundation through these challenging times economically. Daniel Kemmis, during his years as chair, was instrumental in the development of our new strategic plan. He will remain a leader in shaping the future of the Foundation in his new role of chair emeritus.”

The Northwest Area Foundation board of directors consists of 15 members from throughout the Foundation’s eight-state region. Others serving on the board are: Elouise Cobell of Browning, Mont.; Louis F. Hill, Terrence Glarner, Linda Hoeschler, and Patricia Jensen, all of St. Paul, Minn; Rodney Jordan of Minneapolis, Minn.; Elsie Meeks of Rapid City, S.D; Natalie Camacho Mendoza of Boise, Idaho; Sally Pederson of Des Moines, Iowa; Nicholas Slade of Minneapolis, Minn.; William Thorndike, Jr. of Medford, Ore.; and Sarah Vogel of Bismarck, N.D. Directors Kemmis, McDonough, Jordan, Glarner and Slade also serve as trustees of the Foundation.

The Northwest Area Foundation is dedicated to supporting efforts by the people, organizations and communities in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable prosperity. These states were served by the Great Northern Railway, founded by James J. Hill. In 1934, Hill’s son, Louis W. Hill, established the Foundation.
