Louis is the great-grandson of railroad magnet and entrepreneur James J. Hill, founder of the Great Northern Railroad. A 1971 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in mathematics and geology, he currently serves as chairman of Rockwood Capital Management Inc., an entity formed to manage financial and family heritage assets. In addition to his management role with several family-owned businesses, Mr. Hill serves on numerous philanthropic boards representing diverse charitable objectives.

Louis was born and currently resides in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is married to Kathrine E. Hill and has seven children, two stepchildren and nine grandchildren.
