We recently interviewed Dr. Ian Record from the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), whose tribal workforce toolkit—a project supported by funding from our Work Opportunity portfolio—will be used for a new initiative.

The initiative comes with a funding opportunity for tribal nations to design and implement strategic plans for their tribal workforce development approaches.

Tribal nations within our eight-state region (IA, ID, MN, MT, ND, OR, SD, and WA) are invited to apply to take part in the initiative. Priority will be given to tribal nations who:

  • Have a history of focusing on the development of their human capacity to achieve long-term, nation-building priorities
  • Are already working to integrate workforce development, education, and economic development efforts

NCAI will select two tribal nations for this opportunity. The nations will receive a pre-assessment of their current approach to workforce development, an on-site two-day NCAI-facilitated strategic plan development session, and ongoing technical assistance.

Application deadline is past.
Selection decisions were made on February 22.
